About Craig Tara
Craig Tara is a Haven holiday park on the South Ayrshire coast, a couple of miles south of Ayr town centre. It started life as a Butlin's camp before the war, and Haven took it over and renamed it in 1999. Haven says the park is set on a hillside with flat and sloping areas, and some caravans and lodges have sea or lakeside views.
Haven describes a slight slope down to the sand and pebble beach, which is dog-friendly, and there are views across the water to the Isle of Arran. It's a large park, and Haven says it can take around 15 minutes to walk from the furthest point to the main facilities. Ayr's long sandy beach and the town are only a short trip away.
What's on the park
- Pools: Splashaway Bay, which Haven calls one of the biggest indoor pool complexes in Scotland, with slides, flumes and the Noodle Falls rapids.
- Entertainment: evening shows in Bonga Wonga and the Live Lounge, with daytime shows in busy periods, plus an amusement arcade.
- Things to do: the Adventure Village with indoor crazy golf and a climbing attraction, the Airspace sports hall, roller disco, archery, go-karts and an outdoor adventure trail.
- Food and shopping: The Brigs of Ayr restaurant with sea views, Chopstix noodles, Burger King, Papa John's, Cook's fish and chips, ice cream and a supermarket.
Around Ayr and the Ayrshire coast
Ayr has a long sandy beach, a promenade and its racecourse. Alloway, home of the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Burns Cottage, is just inland. Further down the coast, Culzean Castle and Country Park sits on the clifftops, and the Heads of Ayr make for a bracing coastal walk. Glasgow is within an easy drive for a city day.
Swapping and letting at Craig Tara
If you own a caravan here, you already have what makes a swap work: a holiday home on a park other owners want to visit. List it for free and you can swap weeks with owners elsewhere in the UK, Ireland and Europe, and pay nothing for the holiday. If a swap doesn't line up, you can offer a private let and keep 100% of the rent. Just check your licence agreement and the park's current rules on subletting first.
If you're looking for a stay, message the owner of any home above. You're dealing with a fellow owner who looks after their caravan, not a stranger, and there's no booking fee.
The season usually runs from around March to the end of October — check current dates with the owner or the park.
