About Hafan y Môr

Hafan y Môr is one of Haven's biggest parks, covering around 540 acres of mostly flat coastal land on the Llŷn Peninsula near Pwllheli. The site was once Butlin's Pwllheli, and the HMS Glendower pub keeps the old wartime name alive. Many caravans and lodges look over the park's lake or out to sea, with the mountains of Eryri behind.

A sloped path leads down from the coast path to a small beach, though Haven notes a step at the bottom that may need a hand with pushchairs or wheelchairs. Penychain railway station is right next to the park, with trains to Pwllheli and along the Cambrian Coast line. Pwllheli itself is about four miles away. The park is large, so Haven shows guests a park map when they choose where to stay, and owners can tell you which area their caravan is in.

What's on the park

  • Pools: a heated indoor pool with a wave machine and beach-style entry, and a water park with a lazy river and a four-lane water slide.
  • Entertainment: two venues, The Cove and The Boardwalk, with family shows, adult evening shows and arcades.
  • Things to do: the Adventure Village with 4x4s, Aerial Adventure and Segways, an Inflatable Arena, pedalos and dragon boats on the lake, bike hire and the Bark Yard obstacle course for dogs.
  • Food and shopping: Coast House Bar and Grill, the HMS Glendower pub, The Pizza Deck, The Cakery, Slim Chickens, Chopstix, Burger King, Cook's Fish & Chips and a supermarket.
  • For owners: Haven lists an owners' nine-hole golf course, an owners' lounge, an owners-only restaurant, owner-only morning swims, day trips, a Wine Club, quiz nights and an end-of-season party.

Around Pwllheli and the Llŷn Peninsula

Pwllheli has its harbour, marina and a Blue Flag beach, and Criccieth Castle stands on its headland just along the coast the other way. Abersoch, with its sailing and sandy bays, is an easy drive west, and the Italianate village of Portmeirion is a popular day out. Caernarfon Castle and the peaks of Eryri National Park are within reach, and walkers can join the Wales Coast Path from the park.

Swapping and letting at Hafan y Môr

If you own a caravan here, you already have what makes a swap work: a holiday home on a park other owners want to visit. List it for free and you can swap weeks with owners elsewhere in the UK, Ireland and Europe, and pay nothing for the holiday. If a swap doesn't line up, you can offer a private let and keep 100% of the rent. Just check your licence agreement and the park's current rules on subletting first.

If you're looking for a stay, message the owner of any home above. You're dealing with a fellow owner who looks after their caravan, not a stranger, and there's no booking fee.

Haven doesn't give fixed opening dates for Hafan y Môr, but the season usually runs from around March to the end of October, so check current dates with the owner or the park.
