About Whitley Bay

Whitley Bay Holiday Park sits at the north end of the bay on the North Tyneside coast, right beside St Mary's Lighthouse. Parkdean Resorts runs it and describes it as a countryside setting with the seaside on the doorstep. Newcastle city centre is a little over ten miles away, so the park works as well for a city break as for a week by the sea.

Parkdean says Whitley Bay's Blue Flag beach is a short walk from the park, with the promenade and the lighthouse close by. The park also has its own nature reserve area, which Parkdean points out is handy for dog walks. Parking is mostly communal, so it's worth checking the arrangements with the owner before you travel.

What's on the park

  • Pools: a heated indoor pool, with pre-bookable aqua sessions, lane swimming and pool parties.
  • Entertainment: live acts in the Lighthouse Showbar, entertainment through the week, a kids' disco, themed nights and an amusement arcade.
  • Things to do: kids' clubs, an adventure playground, a multi-sports court, archery and bumper zorbs, plus crafts such as pottery painting and tie-dye.
  • Food and shopping: the Boathouse Bar & Restaurant, a Costa Coffee, Scoops ice cream parlour, takeaways and a Nisa convenience store.

Around Whitley Bay and Tynemouth

The restored Spanish City on Whitley Bay's seafront has a tearoom and champagne bar, and the promenade leads south towards Cullercoats. Further along, Tynemouth has the wide sands of Longsands beach, Tynemouth Aquarium and the fish quay at North Shields. Whitehouse Farm Centre is a good choice with younger children, and Newcastle upon Tyne is close enough for a day of shopping, galleries and the Quayside. Head north instead and you reach the Northumberland Coast with its castles, islands and long beaches.

Swapping and letting at Whitley Bay

If you own a caravan here, you already have what makes a swap work: a holiday home on a park other owners want to visit. List it for free and you can swap weeks with owners elsewhere in the UK, Ireland and Europe, and pay nothing for the holiday. If a swap doesn't line up, you can offer a private let and keep 100% of the rent. Just check your licence agreement and the park's current rules on subletting first.

If you're looking for a stay, message the owner of any home above. You're dealing with a fellow owner who looks after their caravan, not a stranger, and there's no booking fee.

Parkdean lists the indoor pool as open from 13 February to 2 November in 2026, which gives a rough guide to the main season — check exact dates with the owner or the park.
