About Haggerston Castle
Haggerston Castle is a Haven holiday park in north Northumberland, a few miles south of Berwick-upon-Tweed. It covers around 230 acres of mostly flat parkland, laid out around a historic castle tower and seven lakes, so plenty of caravans and lodges sit by the water. There's also a nine-hole, par-3 golf course on the park.
Haggerston Castle is inland, and Haven says the nearest sandy beach is about seven miles away. Holy Island and the Northumberland coast are within easy reach by car. Berwick-upon-Tweed station, on the main line between London King's Cross and Edinburgh via Newcastle, is around nine miles from the park.
What's on the park
- Pools: a heated indoor pool with a slide, with ramp entry and a pool wheelchair available.
- Entertainment: shows every evening in the Live Lounge, the Seaside Squad for children and a family amusement arcade.
- Things to do: Aerial Adventure high ropes and a mini course for younger children, pedalos on the lake, the golf course, bike hire, soft play and Football Fun Factory sessions.
- Food and shopping: The Sir Thomas Haggerston (a J D Wetherspoon pub), the Tower Bar in the castle, Chopstix, Burger King, Cook's Fish & Chips, Bertie's Ice Cream and a supermarket.
- For owners: Haven mentions owner-only swim times at the pool and Badger Lodge, an owners-only lakeside lounge with a sun deck.
Around Berwick-upon-Tweed and Holy Island
Holy Island, reached by a tidal causeway, has its priory, castle and quiet beaches, and is a favourite with dog owners. Bamburgh Castle stands above a long sandy beach a little further down the coast. Berwick-upon-Tweed, the nearest town, is a walled market town on the mouth of the Tweed, and Haven notes that Alnwick Castle is under half an hour's drive.
Swapping and letting at Haggerston Castle
If you own a caravan here, you already have what makes a swap work: a holiday home on a park other owners want to visit. List it for free and you can swap weeks with owners elsewhere in the UK, Ireland and Europe, and pay nothing for the holiday. If a swap doesn't line up, you can offer a private let and keep 100% of the rent. Just check your licence agreement and the park's current rules on subletting first.
If you're looking for a stay, message the owner of any home above. You're dealing with a fellow owner who looks after their caravan, not a stranger, and there's no booking fee.
The season usually runs from around March to the end of October — check current dates with the owner or the park.
